Verizon Powerful Answers Finalists!

December 2, 2013 ·

The Common knowledge Scholarship Foundation is one of the ten finalists for Verizon Wireless’ Powerful Answers Competition. Verizon believes that technology is the key to solving big problems in society that can come from anywhere. For this reason, they set up this contest to provide support to programs and ideas from companies and people in the core areas of sustainability, education, and health care. There were a total of 1,400 participants of which hundreds made it to the second round with 30 finalists (10 in each category). The first place winner will receive $1 Million!

The programs proposal needed to include ways that Verizon technology could be used and implemented. CKSF made a proposal for the area of education. Our foundation has many programs that address solutions to world-wide recurring problems such as bullying and internet safety for children of all age groups. The USA-SOS program is an internet safety and cyber citizenship program for 3rd through 8th grade students. Bullying Academy is an interactive program developed to help Middle School students recognize the dangers of bullying and cyber bullying. Bullying and the Law is a high school student designed program to educate kids on the legal consequences of bullying. Besides those initiatives, CKSF rewards students on what they know through online scholarship quizzes for a wide array of topics.

With the help of Verizon’s mobile devices, broadband, tablets, and landline, CKSF can reach out their programs and scholarship opportunities to remote places. As long as there is internet, students anywhere can benefit from all that CKSF has to offer. Verizon clearly saw the potential in our foundations proposal and for that reason; we were one of the few out of many that have made it to the top ten! Our solution to major issues such as bullying can make a huge impact as Verizon and its judges seem to agree on. The world’s biggest problems really do deserve even bigger solutions.
