The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation is known for their wide variety of scholarships for high school and college students. Although many people may not be aware of this, CKSF also offers scholarship quizzes for people who are not in school, specifically the Festivus Scholarship. The Festivus scholarship was created for those who are out of school such as parents, people who are employed, or recent college graduates. It is a quiz competition about general facts. You don’t have to be an expert in a specific subject to take this scholarship quiz.
The spring 2015 winner of the Festivus Scholarship was Aimee Hachigian-Gould. Aimee is an orthopedic surgeon who also happens to be a full time rancher in Montana, with her husband and twin sons on their family ranch. She originally found CKSF’s website from searching scholarships online after her sons started college. Aimee does these quiz competitions as a way to challenge herself with the different common knowledge questions. We asked Aimee what she was going to do with the award of $250 and she explained that it will go towards financing her sons’ education. She also offered advice for anyone thinking about entering the Festivus Scholarship, “Keep trying and have fun! If you don’t try, you can’t win. I just kept trying to do better on each quiz over the years and work my way up each time.”
The Festivus Scholarship is offered twice a year, from September to December and January to April. A new quiz begins the first Sunday of every month. The scores from all the quizzes are added together for each participant. The highest scorer receives a $250 scholarship. In order to participate in this scholarship simply register at cksf.org.
